Disgaea 3 Storyline Characters

Mao is the son of an Overlord, and an honor roll student at the Netherworld academy. Being an honor roll student in the netherworld means you don't do your homework, you skip classes, and those kinds of things. He's determined that the only way he can beat up on his father is to become a "hero", so he recruits Almaz to teach him the way of a hero. Mao is a "Gianist", which is a made up word possibly related to a villian in Doraemon named "Gian". He likes experimenting on people, as well as manga and games.

Voice Actress: Hirata Hiromi

Raspberyl is the childhood friend of Mao, and is essentially the polar opposite of him. She's considered a school delinquent because she does all her homework, never misses class, and volunteers. She appears to be a succubus, and may possibly fight like other monsters in the Disgaea universe.

Voice Actress: Saitou Chiwa

Almaz is a human who is a self proclaimed hero. He has vowed to protect a certain girl he fell in love with, but his title of "hero" was stolen by Mao. Without his hero title, he's slowly becoming a demon.

Voice Actor: Shimono Hiro

The one whom Almaz adores, she is the princess of a kingdom in the human world. She really loves cute things, but the truth is she's a "killing machine" that rivals demons. She cannot cry at sad things, and there is a dark shadow in the depths of her heart.

Jiiya is an elderly demon who serves Mao. He seems to be keeping some secrets from Mao.

He appears to be the Gate Keeper in Disgaea 3.

Voice Actor: Kubota [Arou / Gorou]

He's a Home Economics teacher and a master of High Heat-Style Chaos-School Kitchen Sword. [Tsuyobi-ryuu Konton-ha Chuubou-ken] [Note: "Home Economics" here is pronounced "kateika", like the normal word for home economics, but the middle kanji has been changed to one meaning "abandon" or "give up". Also note that the "High Heat" here refers to high heat in cooking.] He has strong faith in his cooking and his heart; he'll show up suddenly in front of Mao and the others, make a proclamation, and disappear like smoke. He often says good stuff, but because he frequently uses cooking metaphors, a lot of what he says is ambiguous or cryptic......

Subordinate #1 of Raspberyl. She's called "Oritsuru no Asuka" or "Asuka of the Paper Cranes" because she sends paper cranes to wounded opponents (as a get well gesture).

Subordinate #2 of Raspberyl. Her full title is "Kyouko no Lilian". Kyouko means "strong" in Japanese. She's devoted to Raspberyl and calls her "oneesama" (big sister, my lady). She takes the roll of the Explanation character, and seems to know everything about the school's history.

Takehito Harada's most beloved character Plenair will continue her streak by appearing in Disgaea 3. She was the Dark Council person in Disgaea 1, a silent newsreporter in Disgaea 2, and she'll return as the Dark Council person in Disgaea 3.

The tragic heroine returns. Asagi has been a bonus character in multiple Nippon Ichi games, and her story has always been pretty sad. Apparently Nippon Ichi promised her a "Main Character" roll in a game, but she keeps getting screwed over and only appears as a bonus character. Seeing as she's appearing in the promotional artwork for Disgaea 3, she may have a slightly more than bonus roll in the game.
