Synopsis

Possibly one of the most popular anime and manga series of all time, this series by Katou Kazuhiko, who goes by the pseudonym "Monkey Punch", is based upon the character created by Maurice LeBlanc.

The protagonist of this series is Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of the original "Master Thief" Arsène Lupin. Although a bit more brash than his grandfather, the third Lupin is adept in formulating masterful schemes, usually on the fly. While a bit swarmy, Lupin also has a heart of gold, and will often work to correct injustices, even though it may cost him, both physically and monetarily, in the long run!

However, Lupin is not without help. Along with him is Daisuke Jigen, an American gangster on the run from the mob. An expert shot with a gun, Jigen is a constant companion of Lupin, as well as a father figure to him. Also with him is the thirteenth Goemon Ishikawa, a wandering ronin (masterless samurai) who, from time-to-time, offers his sword to help out Lupin.

However, Lupin is still human... which means he is often swayed by a pretty face... namely that of Fujiko Mine! A busty thief with a cunning mind, Fujiko is often the sexual foil to Lupin.

And what anti-hero isn't complete without a nemesis! And for Lupin, it is in the form of Inspector Koichi Zenegata, an officer of the Tokyo Police Department now working for Interpol. An obsessed individual, Zenegata would love the notion to seeing Lupin finally in his cuffs!

Several movies and series were based upon this series. And this series was also the starting place of names like Hayao Miyazaki (who began his legendary directing career with The Castle of Cagliostro) for which this series was a beginning for him!
