Synopsis
Leiji Matsumoto, legendary creator of Galaxy Express 999, presents the epic movie's prequel, which set the events into motion.
At one time an abundant world, the planet La Maetel has been sent into an orbit far from its sun. Now turning into a frozen world, the residents face starvation from their dying crops.
Out of desperation, Promethium, the "Thousand-Year Queen", accepts a risky operation by the chief scientist Hardgear, in which she is transformed into a partially-mechanical being. While at first successful, Promethium finds out after she orders the planet's population to undergo the treatment that it's nothing but a cruel trick – a power-play put into motion by Hardgear. Slowly but surely, she finds her own humanity being transformed into cold logic.
However, her two daughters – the twins Maetel and Emeraldas – have refused to undergo Hardgear's treatment. Now under the cruel scientist's influence, Promethium orders the capture and transformation of her daughters! But somehow, the Thousand-Year Queen must dig deep into her own dying humanity to save Maetel and Emeraldas – and later on the galaxy – from her sad fate.
