Synopsis

In 1995, the debut of Neon Genesis Evangelion set the anime world on its ear! The combination of comedy, action and adventure, not to mention the controversial addition of psychology and Judeo-Christian metaphors was something that the usual anime fan did not expect.

But for all its success, the series ending left a lot of its fans disappointed – which included the series creator Anno Hideiki, who had created the series after a long bout with depression. In 1998, Hideiko formulated two movies, which he hoped would satisfy those who wanted the Evangelion saga to end with a particularly satisfying way.

In the first part, "Death", there was a recap of episodes 1-24, which included brand-new footage which cleared-up many confusing parts in the series. But the second part, "Rebirth", centered upon the first 30 minutes of the follow-up to the film, The End of Evangelion.
