No Need for Tenchi!
From OtakuWiki
Synopsis
Created by Hitoshi Okuda, No Need for Tenchi! is the manga adaptation of the Tenchi Muyo! OVA series past the end of OVA 2.
What the manga details is an extension of the story of Tenchi Masaki, Ryoko Hakubi, Ayeka Misaki Jurai, Sasami Misaki Jurai, Ryo-Ohki, Mihoshi Kuramitsu and Washu Hakubi (and on occasion Kiyone Makibi, but rarely) as the clan goes through their daily challenges of romantic rivalries and other misadventures. And along the way, the group runs into a series of deadly adventures which they solve as only they could.
Along the way, we also run into Minagi, Ryoko's twin who works for an old student of Washu's - Yakage - a scientist who is looking to create a sword as powerful as the Lighthawk sword Tenchi wields, as well as Yume, a rival to Washu's title of 'Greatest Scientific Genius in the Universe'. And of course, we run into more of the Jurai Royal Family as they join in the action and fun.
This manga series also features storylines not typical of the Tenchi OVA. There includes a Pretty Sammy story, which Sasami Kawai has to work quickly when someone sees her transform into Pretty Sammy – before Tsunami's rival Ramia takes advantage of it in her quest to become queen of Juraihelm! Also, there is an official manga adaptation of Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi Muyo! in Love, which the Masaki clan has to protect Tenchi's mother in the past, Achika, from being killed by Kain!
When originally released in the United States in 1996, the stories were printed in a 'flipped' version, which the panels were reversed from the Japanese norm (manga in Japan are typically read from 'right-to-left', where western books are printed to be read 'left-to-right'). In 2006, however, Viz Media released the second edition of the series, which is in an 'unflipped' format, which has become a preferred format for U.S. manga readers.
Tenchi and company's adventures continue in The All New Tenchi Muyo!.
