Synopsis
It was a boundless age of adventure, where pirates of all sorts roamed the seas for treasure and the thrill of the open ocean. And the greatest of them, the Pirate King Gold Roger, is captured and sentenced to death for piracy. Just before his beheading, he was ordered to reveal the location of his ill-gotten treasure. Roger wouldn't reveal the exact area... but he did say that it was somewhere on the Grand Line – in one piece - and had bequeathed it to whoever finds it! And thus was launched the greatest treasure hunt in all of history!
Monkey P. Luffy, the leader of the "Straw Hat Pirates", just happens to be one of these buccaneers. A rather goofy individual, Luffy seeks to find Gold Roger's treasure and claim the title of Pirate King. He may seem lanky – but he has an edge. Years before, he had eaten by mistake one of the legendary "Devil Fruits", the one he ate allows him to stretch any part of his body anyway he wants. The one downside, along with the others who eat a Devil Fruit, is that he or she cannot swim – a disastrous disadvantage for someone on the high seas.
The crew Luffy has gathered are mostly dreamers themselves like himself, with huge bounties on their heads, each one of them seeking something in their lives. And the kind-hearted Luffy had taken them all in as his crew as they search the Grand Line for the fabled treasure.
