Synopsis

Haruhi Fujioka never had an easy life. A tomboyish sort of girl, her mother died at an early age, she has to deal with a crossdressing father, and to top it off, they never seem to have much money.

But Haruhi is also a stellar student, and because of her grades, she earns a scholarship at the exclusive Ouran Private Academy. However, because of she lacked the money for the expensive uniforms the girl students normally wears, she arrives at school wearing pants, shirt and glasses, like what a boy would wear.

But life at Ouran proves to be difficult, and to make matters worse, deciding she needed a quiet place for study, Haruhi slips into a room that was used by the school's host club – a club which handsome boys charms and entertains the girls in and outside the school for profit – and accidentally breaks a vase worth over $80,000!

Well, since she had no money to pay for the vase's replacement, some of the club's members, six very handsome and wealthy boys, force Haruhi to clean-up and do chores around the club while they entertain the girls. However the seventh member, the club's president, Tamaki Soui, not knowing that Haruhi was a girl, decides to promote her as a 'host'. And even when they discover Haruhi's true sex, they decide to take advantage of the situation, since Haruhi had an unusual knack for entertaining the girls, to keep her on so that she could pay off her debt faster. But to do this, Haruhi has maintain the charade that she is a boy... which was easy, because everyone thought she was one anyway!

It is soon revealed that the club has a rivalry with one of the clubs at St. Lobelia Girls Academy – similar to the host club, but with girls catering to boys! Might not be much – but many of the girls are vying for Haruhi's attention! And Haruhi may not know it, but she's developing romantic feelings for Tamaki.
