Synopsis

Pretty Sammy is another chapter of the Tenchi Muyo! franchise (the character originated from the Mihoshi Special OVA, as well as appearing in Tenchi Universe), but this time the hero – or heroine for that matter – is Sasami, and her adventures as a magical girl.

Pretty Sammy OVA

All that Sasami Kawai wanted in life is to be a normal girl. But her home situation was anything BUT normal. For one thing, her home is a music store, which she shares with her clueless, karaoke-crazy mother (and owner of the music store), former cabaret singer Chihiro Kawai, as well as her equally-clueless (but brave and kind hearted) brother Tenchi Kawai. Tenchi's life isn't too different from his sister's – he has to contend with being the center of affection between two of his classmates, Ryoko Orikasa and Ayeka Takada.

Then one day, out of the blue, the queen-candidate of Juraihelm, Tsunami, grants Sasami with the power to make the world a better place. With her partner Ryo-Ohki, Sasami has the ability to transform into Magical Girl Pretty Sammy, protector of Earth.

Now to the average person, this would be a good thing – but not Sasami, who views this as a big annoyance! And to top it all off, Tsunami's rival as queen-candidate, Ramia (by arm-twisting her highly put-upon kid-brother Rumiya), has conscripted Sasami's best friend Misao Amano as the bratty Magical Girl Pixy Misa, mostly to give Sammy trouble. So Sasami has no choice but to become Pretty Sammy to clean-up the messes Pixy Misa creates to keep the world safe.

Magical Project S

The TV version of Pretty Sammy is very different, as several of the characters have been given makeovers. For one thing, Ayeka is renamed Romio, who is another queen-candidate of Juraihelm, and happens to be far worse than Ramia can ever be, and even has a magical girl of her own – Love-Me-Emi. And Ryoko has been renamed "Overly-Splendid" Oryo, brave knight and bodyguard of Tsunami, who helps out Sammy to thwart Romio's wicked plans.
