R.O.D. Read or Die
From OtakuWiki
Synopsis
Yomiko Readman loves books. In fact, about 80% of her disposable income is usually spent on obtaining books. She has an entire building which almost every square inch has books stacked upon each other... some of them she has yet to read! Bookshops can't stand her – mostly because she usually cleans them out, or still has money owed to them! So Yomiko works as a part-time teacher between her regular work (one of her former students, Nenene Sumiregawa, would become the principle character in R.O.D. the TV).
But Yomiko is also a paper master. She has the ability to shape ordinary paper into fantastic shapes and uses... which can include shields, ropes, airplanes, and weapons. Yomiko, or "the Paper" as she is sometimes called, uses her abilities in the service of the British Library's rare book retrieval unit, in order to find rare manuscripts before they are lost. However, there are two books - the two volumes of 'Immortal Beloved' written by the legendary composer Ludwig von Beethoven - that are being sought – because within their pages is the secret for the total annihilation of humanity!
Because of this, Yomiko is paired by her superior Joseph Carpenter, a.k.a. Joker with Drake Anderson, a grouchy mercenary, as well as the beautiful and mysterious Nancy Makaharu, a.k.a. "Miss Deep", a woman capable of walking through walls, in order to find these books. But they run afoul with a mysterious race know as I-jin, which are clones created from the British Library's store of D.N.A. of history's greatest figures - Genjo Sanzo, Jean-Henri Fabre, Otto Lilienthal and Beethoven amoung the group - who also are looking for the books. But along the way, Yomiko finds a startling secret about her friend Nancy – one that can influence events along the way!
