Synopsis

Nenene Sumiregawa is an author who, at a young age, became a best seller. However, since the disappearance of Yomiko Readman, her mentor, muse and former teacher, she has been suffering from a four-year bout with "writer's block". Against the advice of her parents, Nenene has remained in Japan and has been acting as a caretaker for Yomiko's book-filled property.

However, during a rare vacation in Hong Kong, she meets up with three unusual girls who have their own private investigation agency - Michelle Cheung, Maggie Mui, and Anita King. The reason for these girls being unusual happens after Nenene's hotel room is bombed and the girls end up as her bodyguards - and mooching off her! Like Yomiko, Michelle, Maggie and Anita are paper masters, able to manipulate paper by thought, but not to the degree of skill Yomiko had displayed. The girls also do side-work for the Dokusensha, a mysterious organization in China which is now in conflict with the British Library's Rare Book Recovery Unit – the unit Yomiko once worked for! It seems that Yomiko had ran into a conflict with the Library and had set it on fire - and disappared with Nancy Makaharu, a.k.a. Miss Deep.

As things between the British Library (led by Joker) and the Dokusensha get out-of-hand, Nenene and the Paper Sisters see no alternative – they have to find Yomiko and Nancy after she found out Joker was planning to use the British Library's resources to rule the world – and stop this war!
