School Rumble

Synopsis

Contrary to the title, this manga/anime series is not about school fights. Rather, it is about a comedy of romantic errors and other odd stuff.

Tenma Tsukamoto is a second-year high school student at Yagami High School. She doesn't have any special qualities to her, has a love for professional wrestling, and is very childish in her behavior, but she has developed a crush on Oji Karasama, a personality-challenged fellow student and the local genius whose parents live in the United States. The problem – Oji doesn't even know Tenma exists, more less her attention to him! What happens (which is the running gag of the series) is that Tenma is constantly trying to get Oji's attention by various harebrained schemes and whims of fancy – and failing all the time!

Meanwhile, a local ex-delinquent, Kenji Harama, has taken notice of Tenma. A fan of jidaigeki (Japanese Edo-period dramas), he once saved Tenma from a thug, but now Tenma has forgotten the incident, and wants nothing to do with Kenji, instead focusing on Oji. He is also mistaken for another student with an English name (mostly because Japanese surnames are often spoken first).

There are also other subplots in the series, but it's all so hilarious!
