Synopsis

Walking the Earth, there are evil souls known as kishin, fallen humans who feast upon the souls of innocents. Standing in their way are individuals known as meisters, humans that have been trained in the art of hunting these horrors, along with their weapon/partners. The most accomplished to these are humanity's last line of defense from the darkness.

But like anyone – they gotta start somewhere! And that place is the Death Weapon Meister Academy - or D.W.M.A. for short, run by the Angel of Death himself - (Lord Death), where young people are trained in the art of becoming meisters and weapon/partners. One of the most accomplished teams is Maka Albarn, an all-too-serious meister trainee, and her partner Soul Eater Evans, who can transform into a scythe, Maka's principal weapon. Soul, as he’s know, likes to think of himself as 'cool', and often takes shots at Maka's undeveloped figure. And Maka has issues with her father, the womanizing Spirit Albarn, who she loves but blames for her mother seeking a divorce from him! As a result, Maka is driven to gain the 99 kishin souls – and one witch soul – she needs to allow Soul to become a Death Scythe for Lord Death, like her father! But she believes her mother was the one that made her father as such - while in truth, it was Dr. Franken Stein - the greatest meister to graduate from the D.W.M.A. - to do so!

Those two, as well as other students of the DWMA, go out of their way to try to keep the world safe from the dark – provided each member of each team can stand each other!
