The Castle of Cagliostro
From OtakuWiki
Synopsis
"When light and shadow are once more, then it shall be restored."
This mysterious riddle is presented to master thief Arsène Lupin III in this motion picture, which is the first for master director/mangaka Hayao Miyazaki, who later created classics like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away. Ponyo, and Howl's Moving Castle, and created by Katou Kazuhiko, a.k.a. Monkey Punch, who created Lupin the 3rd, the basis of this movie.
The grandson of "the Gentleman Thief", Lupin, along with his partner, sharpshooter Daisuke Jigen, had ripped-off a king's ransom of unmarked U.S. currency from the Casino of Monte Carlo. But no sooner than they made their getaway, Lupin discovers with his trained eye that their haul is counterfeit – the legendary "Goat Bills" in fact, their origin is the little-known duchy of Cagliostro. With their retirement shot to Hell, Lupin and Jigen soon make their way to the duchy, which is known throughout history for many lawmen disappearing suddenly trying to discover the secret of the Goat Bills.
While there, the two find themselves helping a runaway bride, who turns out to be the daughter of the late duke and duchess, who is being forced to wed a man who seeks to find the long-lost treasure of the duchy. Even when discovering that Fujiko Mine, the on-again/off-again love interest of Lupin, is also there (trying to find the treasure herself), as well as Interpol Detective Koichi Zenigata (who is trying to capture Lupin, as usual), Lupin is willing to risk life and limb to find out the mystery of Cagliostro, with help from Jigen, and his samurai friend Goemon Ishikawa XIII, as well as saving the poor girl from a fate worst than death.
