Xenosaga: The Animation
From OtakuWiki
Synopsis
It has been over 4,000 years since mankind had abandoned the Earth, now known as Lost Jerusalem, and became a spacefaring race. The starship Woglinde, owned by Vector Enterprises, has been charged with transporting a Zohar Emulator, which is somehow connected with the original Zohar, a mysterious monolith discovered on Earth in the 21st Century, but lost in a previous conflict. The ship then comes under attack by the Gnosis, a hostile lifeform seemingly bent on securing the Zohar for itself.
But the Woglinde is also carrying a weapon capable of destroying the Gnosis. This weapon is in the form of a beautiful female Realian (android) named KOS-MOS, which was created partially by Shion Uzuki. But two years before, KOS-MOS went berserk during a test, with Shion's finace, Kevin Winnicot, getting killed as a result (unknown to Shion, Kevin was reborn as The Red Testament). Due to this, Shion's team spent the time having the Realian's systems redone, hoping to prevent this. It was while KOS-MOS was down that the Woglinde was attacked by the Gnosis.
Without the use of the Realian-generated Hilbert Effect, which would have rendered the Gnosis vulnerable, the weapons of the armada are useless. As a result, the Woglinde and the armada guarding it are wiped-out. But before it happened, KOS-MOS's systems are suddenly activated due to mysterious protocols installed by Vector Industrial , the company responsible for her creation...and it's CEO, the enigmatic Wilhelm, who is aided by the Red Testament. She has been given new directives - the protection of Shion - and another set dealing with the Zohar Emulator... as well as a new personality surfacing, one with human feelings (the only visible aspect, KOS-MOS's eyes appear blue instead of red), vastly different from KOS-MOS's normally cold and logical programming.
As many dangers unfold - both from the Gnosis, Vector - and the agents of U-TIC, (the creation of the late scientist Joachim Mizrahi, who was unjustly blamed for the Gnosis' appearance), will KOS-MOS prove to be the salvation of humanity... or its end? However, Shion and KOS-MOS find allies in unusual place - namely from the mysterious Kukai Foundation, and it's leader Gaignun Kukai. However, the person acting as his adopted son, Gaignun Kukai Jr. is the true power. And what about the being known as chaos... does he know more than he lets on?
This anime is a direct adaptation to the popular video game Xenosaga, Episode One: Der Wille zur Macht.
