About
Legendary mangaka Leiji Matsumoto, the creative genius behind Star Blazers, Maetel Legend and Harlock Saga brings to life another character from his masterpiece Galaxy Express 999, the heroic pirate Emeraldas, and her lonely quest of justice.
Synopsis
Deciding to abandon Earth once and for all, a young orphan, Hiroshi Umino, stows-away onboard a transport vessel headed to the mining planet of Daibaron. But along the way, the vessel comes under attack by the Alfressian fleet and their brash captain Eldomain. At the height of the battle, Eldomain is attacked himself by a mysterious ship and is damaged severely, forcing the fleet to break-off
Upon getting thrown-off the ship when they reach Daibaron, Hiroshi gets a job at a local bar serving the customers and general clean-up work, (the old man he traveled with, Leilong, just hangs out in the bar) and happens to be there when Eldomain and his second-in-command Gamor, who were still stinging from the previous defeat, barges in and demands the identity of his attacker with the customers. Hiroshi, showing more guts than brains, engages Gamor in a battle of fists, with Hiroshi on the losing end (but he does get in a few good blows for his effort).
However, when Gamor tries to shoot the boy, one of the patrons – Emeraldas – stops him and identifies herself and the one who stopped the attack. She then demands that Eldomain remove the skull-and-crossbones livery from his ship, saying that herself and Captain Harlock were the only ones worthy to use those symbols.
What ensues after that is Emeraldas gains the attention of the Alfressian queen Baralooda, who has made it her quest to rid the universe of the beautiful adventurer. And what about Hiroshi? In the days that follow, will the boy be able to learn the value of friendship and personal honor?
